Project Q is currently being worked on by…
Born in 1950, Jackie graduated from University College London with a mechanical engineering degree in 1972. After an 8-year career break raising two lovely daughters, she became a chartered mechanical engineer in 1987, and then the most senior woman engineer in Brown and Root, managing multi-million pound projects. In 1995 she helped found the charity Energy 21, and was MD for ten years, promoting community renewable energy. She was President of the Women’s Engineering Society from 2002-03. Jackie’s Stroud cottage ran on 100% renewable energy and she became a sustainability consultant. In 2007 she moved to Cornwall to help create a new sustainable community, Trelay Cohousing Community, where she has lived for 12 years, spending much time growing vegetables. She has been a Director of UK Cohousing Network for several years. Jackie is a Quaker and a freelance writer, speaker and consultant, passionate about resilience, renewable energy and local food . . . and an enthusiastic granny.
Cohousing has been an interest of mine both professionally and personally for the last 20 years and feel very excited to have the opportunity to help shape one from the outset in Project Q. I am a professional environmental and housing consultant and have been involved in promoting environmental solutions in housing and development for the last 20 years. My early career was in the electrical/construction industry with a career break to gain a degree in Countryside Management in the mid 90s. Some of my lifetime achievements include:
- Becoming the Project Manager for a new sustainable construction initiative in Langport, Somerset called Ecos Homes. This married my environmental expertise with my previous experience in the construction. The Great Bow Yard development subsequently went on to win many design and sustainability awards and I used this experience as the foundation for launching my own business as a consultant in sustainable construction.
- The development of my own environmental consultancy business in 2004.
- Created a new business venture called GreenMoves, an online estate agency selling eco property in the UK and abroad. Although not involved now it is still running and it gave me a great insight into the marketing of property
Having been successful in business over the past two decades, I would now like to now shift the emphasis of my life towards the things I love and am passionate about, namely helping to create a new intentional community that seeks to address and solve environmental and societal problems within a caring, hard working, reflective and peaceful place.
